Merck & Co., Inc. has been acquired by Pfizer Inc. in a deal valued at $1.6 billion. The deal is expected to close in the second quarter of 2019.
Merck, the world’s leading pharmaceutical company, is a world leader in anti-androgenic and fertility treatments. Its innovative drug, Merck’s first in its class, has been approved by the FDA in Europe and the U. S. for more than a decade.
The agreement, which is expected to close in the second quarter of 2019, will allow the company to sell its anti-androgenic products for up to 12 months and reduce the cost of sales of its products in the U.

In addition to the acquisition, Pfizer is expected to sell its first two generic products in the U. by the end of the second quarter.
In addition to Merck’s products, Pfizer’s sales force includes its U. headquarters in San Jose, Calif. and its headquarters in Raleigh, N. C.

A generic version of Propecia is currently under production at Pfizer’s new Raleigh, N. C., plant, which is expected to close in the second quarter.
